Every Breeder aims to produce healthy well socialized kittens.
To make sure of retaining the quality of the animals I do not have a breeding cattery nor out breed. As I live in the country there are no neighbour’s cats around, and no strays to carry disease to my cats.
I do not feed any chicken as it can contain antibiotics and diseases. Instead I feed my cats and kittens on Iams and home grown meat.
That way, as I run Rare Breed Sheep that have a naturally resistant to worms, I know that I don’t feed meat that has drench retention. Good pasture management means that the cows and goats rarely require drenching and I don’t need antibiotics.
NZCF requires that kittens must be 10 weeks of age before they are able to go to their new homes. At that stage they are socialized as they are brought up inside the house, have had a vet check, one set of vaccinations, been wormed, and are house trained to a litter box.
I prefer that they are desexed before they are sold as there is much less stress on the kitten when done at a young age It saves unwanted pregnancies and /or spraying. It also avoids the cats getting into fights with other mature local cats.(see Aids Prevention below) However I will sell kittens not desexed but ask purchasers to sign a standard NZCF agreement that they will have the kitten neutered/spayed at 4 to 5 months of age. Six months may prove too late as Tonkinese can be an early maturing breed.
If they stay with us until after their second set of vaccinations at 12-13 weeks of age an additional cost may be incurred. Our kittens are required to go to homes where they will be part of the family. Please read the section on Tonkinese to see the requirements of this breed.
My prices vary depending on how old the kittens are and whether or not the kittens are desexed.
A kitten with one vaccination and not desexed is $300.00. Any freight costs must be paid by the purchaser. Air freight prices are per cage not per kitten. If required I will deliver the kittens anywhere between Dunedin to Christchurch.
